SOUTH Pool now has a life-saving defibrillator installed in the old phone box in the centre of the village.
On September 10, villagers turned out to see the new defibrillator being installed after several months of planning. This included the drawing up of the village’s emergency plan and an application for grant aid to the British Heart Foundation.
Meg Warren, South Pool, said: ‘It is central to the village and during the summer months, at high tide, it is passed by all the visitors from Salcombe and Kingsbridge coming to South Pool and the Millbrook Inn via the creek.
‘We were able to fund this via the Town and Parish Fund from South Hams District Council and Devon County Council of £1,200 which has been a great help plus our grant from the British Heart Foundation.
‘As well as receiving the defibrillator we were also sent a CPR, Call, Push and Rescue, training package. On October 6 we will be holding a Heartstart course in the church hall in South Pool. This will be advertised shortly.
‘We are grateful to members of the village who put their efforts into repairing and painting the phone box. It looks very smart now.’
The South Pool defibrillator is now on our map, which you can see at: tinyurl.com/southhamsdefibs or by using the QR codes on the back of our papers.
