Pupils and staff at Harbertonford Primary School, part of the Link Academy Trust, are celebrating their Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) results.

They showed 91 per cent of pupils at the school met the expected standard in reading, far higher than the national average figure of 75 per cent.

In addition, all pupil premium and children with special educational needs met the expected standard.

The school’s strong focus on literacy was highlighted in their most recent Ofsted report with inspectors stating that Harbertonford pupils love to read; saying that reading ‘allows you to get lost in your own world’.

Maths results were also strong with 86 per cent of pupils meeting the expected standard, compared to 75 per cent of children nationally

and 73 per cent of pupils also met the expected standard in writing.

At the heart of the school's curriculum is a commitment to empowering every pupil to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive.

Alongside academic learning, pupils are encouraged to become curious, reflective and ambitious young people who understand their place in the world and the positive impact they can have on their communities.

By nurturing respect, resilience and a strong sense of self, the curriculum equips every child to make informed choices, embrace future opportunities and become the very best version of themselves.

SATs are taken by children in Year 6 at the end of primary school.

These national curriculum assessments cover English grammar, punctuation and spelling, reading, and maths. SATs are designed to measure pupils' progress, identify where additional support may be needed, assess how well schools are performing, and contribute to national education performance data.

“We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved. It is particularly pleasing to see our pupils perform so strongly in reading and maths, with every pupil premium and SEND pupil achieving the expected standard in reading.

“This reflects our commitment to ensuring every child is supported to reach their full potential.

"SATs are just one milestone in a child's education, but the love of learning our pupils have developed during their time at Harbertonford are what matter most.

“We know they will leave us well prepared for the exciting opportunities ahead, and we wish them every success as they move on to secondary school."
