Three climate conservation groups are standing up for the planet by hosting an awareness day in Kingsbridge.

Stand Up is a Kingsbridge based group collaborating with ’Tillthecoastisclear’ and KBXR (Kingsbridge Extinction rebellion).

This is the first joint event after an initial cycling event last year, and the groups are hoping to encourage as many people to come along as possible.

The meeting will be held at Kingsbridge Quay at 3 pm on Saturday, September 18.

There will be speakers and displays that will help explain what the challenges are and why they are getting together. There will be music, a stall by local business ’Green & Wild’ and T-shirt printing.

At around 3.45pm-4pm the groups will be encouraging anyone who has brought paddleboards and kayaks to join them on the water to create a formation.

This formation will be photographed from above by a drone and used to spread the message. Everyone will then return to the quay for some music and conversation.

People need to bring T-shirts to be printed on.

There will also be pledges that people can make to change their lives in small or big ways that benefit the environment.

The group’s message is, "That everybody cares about the environment in their way, but caring alone is not enough.

"To slow and ultimately bring to a halt the ecological and climate disaster that is upon us, we need to Stand Up and show we care in whatever way we feel we can. We believe everyone is an Environmental Activist. No one wants to see the fields of their childhood built on and the seas and rivers they swim in polluted, their wildlife gone."

A spokesperson for the group said: "We want to help people become good ancestors to their children and grandchildren by raising awareness, creating forums for discussion, and suggesting ways that they can change their lifestyle to stop pumping so much carbon into the atmosphere.

"We want to share a realization that wealthy countries need to regain the concept of what is ’enough’ and adjust our lifestyles to be in tune with a carbon footprint that makes life possible for future generations of all living species."
