John Montague, of Aune Cross, Bantham, Kingsbridge, writes:

Anyone who was able to attend the first play presented by the newly formed Lesser Spotted Theatre Company will have enjoyed an unforgettable theatrical experience.

The play, Me Time, explored the aspects of narcissistic motherhood, from the trivial to the obsessive. For most of the play, the audience chuckled and guffawed at what at times became pure farce.

The cast of four women – the mother, two daughters and an outsider – was led superbly by Gina Carter as the mother, Judy. The players maintained an admirable pace and energy that commanded the unflagging attention of the audience – age range late teens to mid-80s – throughout.

Only in the final explosive scene were we brought face-to-face with the serious underlying problems of extreme selfishness.

Young playwright Ross Purdy has produced an outstanding piece of dramatic art, which deserves a place on the national stage. With enough support from the local community, this could happen.

The Lesser Spotted Theatre Company will be touring with Me Time in the spring.

If the troupe comes to a venue near you, don’t miss this unique opportunity.

And if it is further away, attendance will be worth every extra mile.
