It was a night of firsts at South Brent Village Hall.
The South Brent Refugee Support Network’s first ever fundraising concert was also the first public performance by the Dartmoor Wind Ensemble and the newly-formed Dartmoor Strings.
Billed as an evening of serenades, the concert played to a sell-out audience and raised more than £1200. The money will go to fund vital refugee support projects via Luck of Birth, which provides housing and support for refugees in Greece, and the British Red Cross, which supports refugees in Plymouth.
The audience was treated to a selection of pieces by Bach, Albinoni, Elgar and Dvorak.
Supporters of the charity created more than 20 different puddings which were sold to raise money, along with ticket sales, donations, a raffle and savoury dishes.
Organiser, Jude Bishop said: “We were delighted with the success of the evening and we are very appreciative of all the dedicated work and time given freely by the musicians.”
