THE Bigbury Fun Run is celebrating its silver anniversary this year and it is promising to be bigger and better than ever before. In its 25 years, the family fun run has raised thousands of pounds for local charities, including the Devon Air Ambulance Trust, and this year it will take place on Saturday, June 28, with entertainment starting at noon and the run kicking off at 3pm. The fun run takes a five and a half mile undulating cours through the lanes around the Bigbury area. After last year's change in the route, this year gives participants a chance to beat their times, as they start out from the Waterfront Bar at Challaborough Bay. Runners will pass through Bigbury-on-Sea, past Burgh Island, through Bigbury, on to St Ann's Chapel, through Ringmore out to Toby's Point before finishing on the beach at Challaborough. As well as the fun run, there will be plenty of activities and stalls starting up at noon, with lots to do for the whole family, such as a bouncy castle, a duck race, and 'beat the keeper' football competition. There will be live music in the Waterfront Bar on the Friday evening and again throughout the day on Saturday and into the evening. Co-organiser Lee Wilson said: 'After the change of venue last year we had a fantastic response, it was met with great optimism and enthusiasm. 'We hope to build on that success and make the day and the race itself as enjoyable as possible and something that the local people will get involved with and be proud of. 'Our main aim is to make the event a real family fun day, with plenty going on for everybody and, of course, we aim to raise plenty of money for the air ambulance and other local causes.' Lee added: 'Living in a remote area, we rely heavily on the work that the Devon Air Ambulance Trust does and, therefore, we try to do what we can to support the people that do such an important and fantastic job.' Sponsorship forms are available from village pubs and shops in the Bigbury, Ringmore and Challaborough area or on the fun run website http://www.bigbury">www.bigbury funrun.2day.ws.
