I would like to highlight the wonderful Fun in the Park event at the Recreation Ground last Sunday.

The play spaces concept came from Wendy Bolt, an expert in play for toddlers – but this latest event took the idea to a new level.

A jazzed-up crazy golf, owls, face painting, how to encourage hedgehogs, bouncy castle… and all free, because the new, young team, led by Tom and Gemma, used grants and ­playspaces funding from local sources to give the town’s young families a real treat in the sunshine.

Thanks to the attentions of Matt and his team from South Hams Council and the ­unfailing skills of Kingsbridge in Bloom – judging is on Monday, July 11th – the park looked a ­picture of floral ­beauty. There was even water in the pond!

Cafe Decks’ Fairtrade Marika’s Coffee, pure juices and luscious cakes provided the energy for everyone to enjoy the afternoon to the full.

A special mention for police cadet Samuel, who came in all the way from Bigbury to do his bit. And how good to see the town’s young families support the event in their hundreds and enjoy all the fun with their kids.
