SARAH Lewis of Blackmore Road, Melksham, Wiltshire, writes: I am not a resident of Dartmouth but I am a regular holiday visitor. Why do I choose to spend my holidays in Dartmouth, as do my family? Because of its beauty, because of the friendliness and kindness of its inhabitants, and because of its unique shops. So many wonderful shops and restaurants. I buy all of my clothes here. I buy special presents for forthcoming birthdays etc and food of the gods to enjoy. What I totally disapprove of is the ignorant attitude of a mere councillor Roger Chilcott. Has he ever run a business? I doubt it. He clearly is not in touch with the views of those who feel nothing but praise for the hard working businesses of Dartmouth. Would he prefer a town with Poundland, Tesco, Toys r Us et al? Roll up your sleeves Cllr Chilcott if you think you could do it better. With 'friends' like him, who needs enemies? My family and I will continue to spend our holidays and money in Dartmouth and if Cllr Chilcott would like to get off his backside to help – maybe a reduction in business rates would aid the hard working and greatly appreciated business folk.
