JOHN MITCHELL of Clarence Hill, Dartmouth, writes:
I was very saddened, as were I am sure many in Dartmouth, in learning of the death of John Whittington.
He was always so pleased to meet one and was unfailingly enthusiastic about his many fundraising ventures for local charities.
Not everyone will know of the very significant help he gave to The Flavel from its very conception. He arranged Sinatra evening boat trips up the Dart, which donated many, many thousands of pounds to the project at a time when funds were very low.
We were so much the better for knowing him and visits to the Castle Café will never be quite the same without him.
