Due to an amber weather warning issued for Friday, October 23, organisers of Dartmouth Food Festival have cancelled “some elements” of the festival until Saturday.
All outdoor events and exhibitors trading under canvas on Friday will not take place due to health and safety concerns.
No further changes are expected; however, organisers say they are “keeping a close eye” on the forecast.
In a joint statement, Suzie Sutton and Denise Brough, Co-Chairs of Dartmouth Food Festival, said: “The decision to postpone the outdoor elements of Friday’s Dartmouth Food Festival until Saturday morning was not taken lightly.
“We have been closely monitoring the weather forecast and the amber warning for Storm Austen, and, having carefully considered the potential risks, we believe this is the most responsible course of action.
“Our priority has to be the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved, including visitors, exhibitors, volunteers and event teams.
“Based on the information currently available, we do not anticipate any further changes, although we will continue to monitor the weather and take advice as appropriate.
“We appreciate that this will be disappointing for some, and are very grateful to everyone for their understanding and support.”
None of the planned events will be rescheduled, including the Chef Demo theatre tent, due to the intense scheduling.
However, following the cancellations, some caterers, such as The Dolphin, have announced unofficial events from noon so visitors can still see a piece of the action.
Friday’s events taking place at the Flavel, Dartmouth Yacht Club, The Sail Loft, Browns Hotel, and the Flavel Church will continue as planned.
Visitors are advised to monitor Dartmouth Food Festival’s social media for updates and information.
