THE talents of three young local musicians is to be showcased at two of the Flavel’s popular free lunchtime concerts in Dartmouth.
At the first of these recitals, on Thursday, June 9, Claudia Alvarez Calderon, soprano, will be accompanied by Ekaterina Shetliffe on the piano.
Peruvian born Claudia moved to Rome to pursue her dream of becoming a professional singer. Now based in Devon, she is currently collaborating with different musicians on a number of projects ranging from art songs to medieval music and opera in more than eight languages.
Ekaterina was born in Russia and studied in her home country. She now lives in South Devon and gives regular performances, both as a soloist and also accompanying local vocalists and instrumentalists.
Together they will be performing a Russian Matinee, an entrancing selection of Russian songs written by some of the great Romantic Russian composers. The songs will be sung in Russian which will enable all the emotion behind the words to shine through.
The second concert, on Thursday, July 14, will see the welcome return of David Cotter. This wonderful guitarist, based in Plymouth, started playing the classical guitar aged 13 and over the last few years has enjoyed lessons with some of the world’s leading classical guitar players. Although David frequently duets with singers and other instrumentalists this will be a solo recital. He has immensely wide ranging musical taste and has developed a very rich and diverse repertoire from Bach to the Beatles, Spanish to Latin-American, Baroque to Contemporary, so this talented musician will be providing an exciting and varied programme with something to please everyone.
