Elizabeth Mills, treasurer, Dartmouth and District Food Bank, writes: Following on from the letter from Howard O'Keeffe, chairman of the Dartmouth and District Food Bank, Chronicle, July 12, I felt I would like to add my own comments about our recent AGM. The committee was delighted with the good turnout and we felt we were able to explain our work in what we believe was a clear and open meeting. From the very positive emails we have received since from some of the attendees, it seems we got our message across and that our work is better understood and appreciated in the town. I think most attending will agree that there does remain a real need for a food bank in Dartmouth, and while this need exists, we will be there. Our management of the fuel poverty campaign was explained and, thanks to the hard work of our former food bank manager Dawn Shepherd and all the volunteers, a genuine need was met successfully. As was mentioned at the meeting, for the time being this service has ceased as the need for helping clients with their fuel bills lessens in the warmer weather. It is our intention, however, to run a similar campaign at the end of this year. The accounts were presented at the meeting and, despite rumours circulating around town, they were made available to all on the night. If for any reason someone did not get a copy and would like to see them, they are available. Eventually they will be posted on our new website. Anyone requiring a copy, please send an email to [email protected]">[email protected], providing their name and address. Finally, a thank you to all the representatives of the agencies with which we deal for coming along and giving their support. May we say, also, how much we appreciate the level of reporting we receive from the Dartmouth Chronicle.
