A man and his brother cycled 285 miles in memory of their dad, while also raising money for various cancer-related charities.

Kevin Moxham, his brother, Clive, and 20 of their dedicated friends began their four-day journey from Hope Cove and ended in Harpenden, Hertfordshire.

Their dad lost his battle with cancer 20 years ago this year, so Kevin and Clive chose Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, CLIC Sargent, Maggie’s Centres and Prostate Cancer UK to support for the charity ride. These charities aim to support those affected by cancer, while researching how to end the disease.

Hope Cove was the chosen starting point because of the brothers’ fond memories there throughout their lives. Their mum and dad had their honeymoon at the Cottage Hotel in 1966, and for the first 16 years of their lives, they spent their holidays at their grandparents bungalow in Channel View Drive. Later on, Kevin’s wife, Laura, asked him to marry him atop Bolt Tail, and the two spent their first day as an engaged couple at the Cottage Hotel.

On Wednesday, July 25, the cyclists set off from Hope Cove, and four days later arrived in Harpenden where they met up with family and friends and finished the ride at Harpenden Cricket Club at 4pm on Saturday, July 28. By that time, their numbers had swelled to more than 45 people including children.

The finish line party raised more than £1,000 for the five charities, and their total number is now £14,500. They still hope to get to their target of £20,000, so to if you’d like to donate, visit their VirginMoneyGiving page called Hope Cove to Harpenden.
