IVYBRIDGE Community College competition winners joined TV personality Ben Fogle to plant 101 trees to mark their commitment towards a greener future.

Pupils from the college proved they deserved their title of the UK's greenest teens as they celebrated winning Npower's Climate Cops SOS competition by each planting a tree in the great outdoors, marking their continued commitment to the environment.

TV adventurer Ben joined the winning pupils, introducing a total of 101 new saplings into the woodland, within the grounds of one of the Outward Bound Trust's Lake District venues.

Earlier in the year, Npower and Fogle invited students nationwide to put their passion and imagination to the test and prove their green credentials by introducing a new green project into their local area.

Students from Ivybridge wowed the judges with their challenge to the entire school to go without any power or paper for a whole hour which proved to be a real hit.

As a reward for winning the Npower Climate Cops competition the pupils have spent the last week on an outdoor experience at The Trust's Ullswater Centre, designed to help them build their eco-conscience and better understand how to live with minimum environmental impact.

As well as experiencing a week jam-packed with activities such as fell walking and canoeing, the teens each planted a hazel tree leaving a lasting legacy.

The Npower Climate Cops SOS programme was designed to give young people skills to make a real change in their local area.

Clare McDougall, Npower's head of education and community, said: 'Planting these 101 trees is a fantastic way to demonstrate the lasting affect that one green action can have on the environment.

'After only a couple of hours spent with our tools in the great outdoors, Ben and these young people have contributed to the vast landscape and proved their commitment to the great outdoors.

Ben Fogle, Npower's Climate Cops SOS ambassador, said: 'I've been blown away by the imagination, initiative and respect that these young people have for the great outdoors.

'We've spent some fantastic days in the fresh air, enjoying the environment and I have been really impressed by these green-agers – there are definitely some future explorers amongst them.'
