Office of William (The Earl of) Dartmouth MEP, Ukip deputy chairman, writes:

Nigel Farage should be appointed as the UK’s ambassador to the US with effect from January 1, 2017.

After Brexit, the special relationship will be even more important. Nigel Farage already has good ties and a relationship with US president-elect Donald Trump – much better than anyone else in British public life.

His appointment would assist materially the UK in getting a UK-US trade agreement for the first time. We in the UK would then be ‘at the front of the queue’.

Nigel Farage’s appointment is clearly in the national interest. The alternative is some establishment Foreign Office ‘high-flier’ with neither empathy nor understanding for the next US president and administration.

Nigel Farage is the best choice for UK ambassador in Washington DC and the only rational one. The UK’s national interest should come first.
