A COMMUNITY cinema on the edge of Dartmoor will be paying tribute to the late actor Tim Curry with a very special film show at the end of this month.

Buckfastleigh’s Cosy Cinema will be ramping up its Hollywood glamour to a whole new level when it presents a showing of the cult film The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Taking place on appropriately on Halloween October 31 the event is being billed as a Halloween party where the grown-ups will be allowed to come out and play! It is also being shown as a tribute to its star,Tim Curry, who sadly died in August this year.

This cult film has a tradition of viewers coming dressed up and there is plenty of audience participation - and this showing will be no exception to the rule!

Volunteer Paul Georgiades, long-time fan of the film – and also Mayor of Buckfastleigh - is the main driving force behind this special showing.

“This was a career -defining film for Tim Curry and it seems appropriate that we should show it on the first Halloween after his death,” he said

“It’s one of those movies where there is as much fun being in the audience as there is in the film. We hope that people will relish that side of it and there are many fan sites on the internet, such as timewarp.org.uk , giving tips on dressing up and joining in.

“However, if that is not your sort of thing you’re welcome to enjoy the film as you feel most comfortable. That is what the Cosy Cinema is all about.”

Based in the town hall the cinema has just revealed the programme for its second season of operation. Volunteer co-ordinator Steven Burch said: “The summer break gave those involved the chance to reflect on our priorities for the upcoming few months. We realised straight-away that we have got the whole atmosphere and feel of the cinema working well.

“We know that our customers love the little touches that we have brought in: from the red carpet entrance through to our themed bar and of course the auditorium itself. Now we want to make sure that we are a cinema for all by showing a broad range of films that will have something for everyone from children to adults and which will include familiar titles, award-winning films and classics as well as special events and themed showings.

“In February we will be hosting our first ever film festival – The Big Film Weekend - so there is lots to look forward to.”

And classic film buff Alison Knowling, another volunteer, added, “The Rocky Horror Picture show is a good example of what we want to offer.

”It’s an old film which people have heard about but which they may not have actually seen before, or never watched on the big screen which is where it was made to be viewed. We hope that fans will come from far and wide for the experience.”

Doors open at 7.15pm and the film starts at 8.00pm with a Rocky Horror Quiz prize quiz. Tickets are available through Eventbrite or via the Cosy Cinema Buckfastleigh Facebook page.
