Kingsbridge Community College’s Year 8 rugby team have received new kit thanks to Suzanne and Sean Thomas, joint owners of the Crabshell.

In this tough economic climate, KCC, like many other schools, have severe cuts to their budgets. However, the costs of PE and sports equipment remains high and directly affects the sports and activities that can be taught.

Head of PE Helen Tully said: “We feel it is vitally important to ensure students leave KCC having had positive experiences in their PE lessons., since this is integral to them leading a healthy and active lifestyle.

“This is made possible with using good facilities and having enough equipment of reasonable quality so skills can be learned and developed.

“Suzanne and Sean have already kindly bought the school the High Jump equipment, without which this athletic discipline could not have been taught.

“They also kindly donated a new set of tennis rackets and sponsored the numnahs for the KCC Equestrian team; enabling us to look the part amongst a competitive field of independent schools.”

Suzanne Thomas said: “Schools are under such pressure at the moment, with cuts to the arts, so students who aren’t specifically academic are losing out. PE is so important, and helps support the NHS, keeping us all healthier.

“I was horrified that they couldn’t purchase good quality equipment. Our four kids have gone to or are currently going to KCC, its about giving back.”

KCC are currently looking to buy a new hockey goalkeepers kit, as this is a sport gaining in popularity and success. If anyone wishes to offer their support to the PE department or the College as a whole, please get in touch via Emma McQuitty, Mr Duncan’s PA on 01548 852641.
