Kingsbridge Primary School’s PTFA held its annual summer fair and raised £4,800 towards “memorable experiences” for each year group.
A representative of the school said: “With full attendance, including some very excited Kingsbridge Primary school children, their parents, past pupils and town locals, a great time was had by all.”
As well as the traditional soaking of Year 6 pupils - always a highlight in the school’s calendar - there was much to entertain all the family with games such as balloon burst - the balloons were kindly supplied by Occasional Cards - and guess the name of the Teddy as well as a bouncy castle and entertainment by local DJ Crunchy Carrot.
The highly anticipated Total Wipeout was as popular as ever and this year there was added incentive for the adult “space hopper” race - a three night break courtesy of Gara Rock apartments for the fastest time.
The busiest stall of the evening was the Tombola stand, with a wealth of prizes kindly donated by parents, local businesses and attractions.
Prizes included; luxury hampers; a curry for two at the Royal Castle Hotel in Dartmouth; a meal for two at the Village Inn donated by the Thurlestone Hotel; two-day passes at the Salcombe Harbour Hotel; cream tea for four at South Sands Hotel; mugs and toys by Jane Foster; a family portrait from Martin Norsworthy; snorkel and bag from Anchor Sports; scarves from Habit; a designer bag from Bibi & Mac; deluxe pillows from Peter Betteridge; a bottle of Salcombe Gin; a toy from The Trading Post; a Stacey Hardwick design; an Avon hamper; complimentary tickets to Merlin Cinemas; Dartmoor Zoo; South Devon Railway; The Miniature Pony Centre; River Dart Country Park; Torquay United; Woodlands and the Living Coast as well as vouchers from Catherine Robinson Nails; KB Lashes; Bantham Surfing Academy; The Regal; Crabshed; Bumble; Valley View Cafe; Harbour Book Shop and Moschulu.
Visitors also enjoyed a wide variety of food and drink on offer including a BBQ, Wine bar, sweets, strawberries and cream and of course homemade cake.
Head teacher, Christine Slaughter - who retires this year - said: “Yet again, our Summer Fair surpassed all expectations. It was such a wonderful evening and enjoyed by all, thank you so much to the hard work of the PTFA and the generosity of our parents, the local community and businesses."
Abigail Spearing, chairman of the PTFA also commented: “It was great to see everyone having such great time and I would particularly like to thank all the generous local businesses that sponsored us - Santander Bank, Paul Carpenter Associates; Tally Ho!; Salcombe Embroiderers and Toad Hall.
“I would also like to thank the many parents, PTFA members, staff and local businesses who gave their time, hamper donations and tombola prizes.
“They all enabled the event to be such a roaring success - memorable experiences this year included a trip to Theatre Royal to see Gangsta Granny; Lego Techinic workshop; African Dance and drumming session; a visit from staff and animals from Dartmoor Zoo; Trips to Forest and Beach and a Nature make workshop.”
