A charitable youngster is pulling out all the stops to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West.
Eight-year-old Dylan Prior decided to try to raise money for the charity after staff visited his primary school, Woodlands Park in Ivybridge.
Impressed by the work of CHSW, Dylan decided to organise an informal one mile sponsored run, which is due to take place in Filham Park in the town on Sunday, April 9 at 11am.
He has been hard at work organising the event, putting up posters around his school and obtaining sponsorship as well as prizes for runners, which have been donated by local businesses. So far, there are gift vouchers from Nature’s Larder and Trail Outdoors up for grabs, as well as a set meal for two from the Taste of Bengal and a gents haircut from Pink Scissors.
Dylan has also been promised goodies from Erme Valley Pet Supplies, Footnote, South Brent Flowers and the Coop in Glanvilles Mill, where staff have even said they will help out with the event.
Dylan said CHSW ’seems like a charity that will use the money wisely’, as it works with ’children with diseases that will kill them before they grow up’. He has previously been involved in charity fun runs organised by Trevi House residential rehab centre, where his mum Hannah Shead is chief executive, giving him inspiration for his.
Dylan added he was hoping to raise £100 through the run, although he had already received £45 from generous supporters, which was ’amazing as the run hasn’t even taken place yet’.
Hannah said the support for Dylan had been fantastic. She said: ’My hope is for a small community minded event, for people just to come along and enjoy themselves. A reminder that there are no toilets in Filham Park, it may not start exactly at 11, and it may not be exactly a mile - the emphasis is on fun. Any volunteers that want to come along and help out would be very welcome.’
Dylan plans to make a small charge for people to take part, which will go to CHSW. He has approached local Beavers and Cubs to take part, and is hoping some of his classmates will also get involved.
