PEOPLE in a fix with broken electrical items and gadgets can get them repaired free at a special event in Ivybridge this weekend.

Recycle Devon is running a series of ’Repair It’ events for the public to bring along broken electrical appliances, including computers, to be fixed.

The South Hams event is taking place in Ivybridge, at the Methodist Church Hall, Fore Street from 10am to 12.30pm on Saturday, September 10.

Organised in conjunction with local sustainability group, PL:21 Transition Initiative, the Ivybridge event will see repairs carried out on a first come, first served basis by local menders. There is no charge, but please be prepared to wait.

Menders will include Stephen Evans from Any Fix South West, and Dan’s Computer Services. Please note that CRT TVs or monitors, electric blankets or microwaves will not be repaired for safety reasons.

The Methodist Church also holds a café on a Saturday which will be open throughout the event.

Chairman of PL:21 Tony Barber said: ’We’re looking forward to reaping the benefit of the local mending skills that are out there in the community for this event.’

Emma Croft, Re-use Project coordinator added: ‘Research shows that more than 75 per cent of the small electrical items that come into our recycling centres could be back up and running if they were repaired. These events are designed to help householders waste less and enable them to save money and resources by not having to replace something broken.’
