With regard to the article on the despicable Rebecca Jefferies, who let her pet rabbit starve to death – apart from the overwhelming sadness of this, we are extremely concerned as to whether the authorities have checked if she has any other animals small or large, realising what she is capable of, and disgusted by the penalty she has to pay.

What if that had been a child? Why are animals treated as second rate? They have every right to live on this Earth and safely when in the custody of a so-called human.

I am horrified at the ban of only two years until she can get another one and possibly do the same. She should have been banned for keeping pets forever.

Well done for printing her name and address. I hope she is shunned by all neighbours and friends. She deserves to be made an outcast.

People who do this sort of thing should be locked away.
