Dick Lloyd, of Sherford, Kingsbridge, writes:
While I have the greatest respect for our dedicated MP Dr Sarah Wollaston, I believe she is backing the wrong horse on the very important issue of the UK vote on whether to stay in the EU, as evidenced by her article in Sunday’s Observer.
She is hitching her chariot to the likes of pint-swilling Nigel Farage and charismatic buffoon Boris Johnson, whose main motivation is not British interests, but propelling himself into Downing Street.
The prime minister has worked extremely hard with much dignity to obtain the best deal for us within the European community. There is no necessity to repeat his arguments here, with which I fully agree, and he is backed not only by the majority of the business community, but also by all three other main party leaders.
The one certain outcome of Brexit will be the break up of the UK, as the Scots, like the Irish, have made it clear that they want to stay in the EU.
This will leave a pathetic rump of a country comprising England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with no clout on the international stage whatsoever.
Back to the 17th century. Is that what we really want? Not I.
