THE Kingsbridge branch of the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal this year has so far raised over £13,000.

Branch chairman and organiser John Peacock said: 'We are very pleased with the count so far.

'There are more collection tins to come in and donations being received daily, so we will be on course to equal or maybe beat last year's totals.

'Our thanks go to the 60-plus collectors who carried out both door-to-door collections and fixed point positions around the town and in our supermarkets.

'The poppy appeal is an all year round appeal and fundraising is not just for the two weeks in Nov-ember.

'A poppy appeal fundraiser was held at the RBL the Mill Club on Sunday, December 1, when local ladies group Musaic performed their favourite Christmas time songs.

'Entry was free but a raffle was held and donations gratefully accepted.

More than £150 was raised and this, too, will go to swell the poppy appeal.

'The RBL Mill Club is gaining in popularity with several groups now hiring the facilities and bookings for functions considerably increased since last year.

Snooker, pool and darts teams are now well established and the monthly karaoke is proving as popular as ever.

'Details of the club's activities can be accessed from within the club and on line at http://branches">http://branches. britishlegion.org.uk/branches/kingsbridge.

'Our sincere thanks to everyone who helped in this years Remembrance parade.

'Without the support of members of the fair week committee – and in particular Peter Trembath, who looks after the sound at the memorial – the day would be very difficult.

'We now start thinking about commemoration of the start of the First World War in August.

'There is never a dull moment at Kingsbridge Royal British Legion.'
