For over 40 years with only two exceptions, The Dartmouth Art Society have successfully organised an exhibition of work by local artists.

To celebrate this year they have the most entries with original paintings in all mediums and sizes, from miniatures to poster size and beautiful cards for all occasions.

It is free to enter and view with all works for sale.

At the members preview evening this year the special guests will be Caroline Voaden MP and town crier Ted Ellis.

It is being held on Sunday, August 9 to 21 between 10.30am and 5pm at The Mason’s Hall in Lower Street.

The Dartmouth Art Society began life in 1984 and they meet every Thursday afternoon from September to May at Townstal Community Hall.

They hold their members exhibition there in February.

The Dartmouth Art Society is a lively group with members ranging from beginners to the more experienced.

There are regular demonstrations every month in media including watercolour, acrylics, oil, pastels and pencil with follow-up workshops providing tuition to develop skills.

Dartmouth Art Society has approximately 65 members.

They organise varied demonstrations approximately once a month from local professional artists followed up with a full day workshop and a separate fee is charged for these activities.

From time to time figure drawing and still life sessions are arranged.

On Thursdays other than the demonstration days they bring our own work when they can exchange ideas and information.

Social events and the annual exhibitions are important dates in the calendar.

You don’t have to be a professional artist or a Turner, Picasso or Banksy, just someone who wants to have a go.
