Dartington Live, the new arts programme from Dartington Arts, welcomes a captivating and eclectic mix of theatre, dance, music, and art this spring.
Volker Gerling calls himself a “flipbook filmmaker”. Since 2003, the Berlin-based artist and intrepid traveller has been taking long walks and photographing people. The black-and-white results, assembled into flipbooks, are a stunning twist on time- lapse photography. After huge success in the Edinburgh Fringe and a Total Theatre Award, Dartington Hall are welcoming Portraits in Motion. Throughout the "uniquely heart-warming performance" (The Times) Gerling shows a selection of his favourite portraits by holding each one under a video camera which projects the images onto a large screen on stage.
In a series of enchanting and precious moments, the people he photographed come to life as he shares the stories behind each encounter, each story unfolding and creating an intimate, unique and enthralling performance.
Dartington’s Becca Gill said: “It’s really exciting that we’re able to bring innovative and immersive performances such as Portraits in Motion to Dartington Live.
"Volker Gerling brings not only wonderful writing and performance but also stunning production.”
Showing for just two nights this is a unique opportunity to see a performance like no other.
