KINGSBRIDGE and Salcombe Cougars women's hockey team have an important game to play - find a keeper!

Former custodian Beth Durrans has left the club to pursue a diving work opportunity in Mexico and, with the girls due to start the new league season next weekend, replacing her is now a matter of urgency.

Coach Ash Wyeth said:  'Ideally we'd like someone who has played in goal before who might currently play, or we are happy to support a school 'keeper looking to start playing club hockey.

'We can also support anyone who would like to try it out and can provide some additional goalkeeping coaching if needed.'

Of the departed Durrans, he added:  'Beth had been with us for just over a year and joined the club having never played in goal before. She settled into the position very quickly and soon became an integral member of the club.

'Beth crowned the end of her first season with us by saving two penalty flicks in the Devon Trophy final.

'We're all really sorry to see her going, but she has been working towards achieving her Divemaster diving qualification for several years and her new job in Mexico is a fantastic opportunity.

'Everyone at the club wishes her the best of luck.'

Anyone interested in the goalkeeper vacancy is urged to contact Wyeth on email at [email protected]">[email protected], club captain Helen Symons on 07738 860377, or via the website http://www.kscougars.co.uk">www.kscougars.co.uk.

The Cougars have a friendly at home to Dawlish at 11am tomorrow, ahead of a trip to Ottery Crickets in Petroc Division 1.

Meanwhile, the club has handed over £100 to Tesco after carrying out a sponsored bag pack recently to fund their trip to the Olympics to watch some of the hockey games.
