John and Ingrid Dickenson, of Mount Boone, Dartmouth, write: What a marvellous weekend Dartmouth enjoyed, with the streets abuzz with people, awash with music and basking in sunshine. Once again a big thank you and congratulations are due to the music festival committee, the performers and to everyone involved who contributed to making the 18th festival such a splendid event. There was music to delight every taste, from William Walton to The Wurzels. An especial highlight this year was the inspirational talk and performance by Charles Hazelwood and his young string players from the Royal Academy. Let us hope they can be enticed back to The Flavel in future years. One wonders if the organisers could be encouraged to increase the number of events from the classical end of the musical rainbow. The enthusiastic audiences for the classical performances suggest that there is as healthy an appetite for this music at the festival as there is for jazz, blues, rock and folk. Presumably a return of the much-missed Dart Festival Chamber Orchestra would make too large a dent in the budget? However, smaller ensembles would still be very welcome.
