Martin Ives, of Kingsway Park, Kingsbridge, writes:
If reports are correct, the Kingsbridge Fair Week committee is barred from the South Hams Council tendering process to operate Kingsbridge Fair Week. Surely this is a restraint of trade.
If correctly reported, we have been given a glib ‘official speak’ reason for the necessity of a tendering process – ie ‘duty of care’.
At the present time, as the town square is included, non-commercial events such as the children’s sand castle competition, boules competition and live music etc appear doomed to history.
No doubt the South Hams councillors and officials responsible are very self-satisfied with the upset they are causing to Fair Week committee members, the local populace and the numerous visitors this event attracts.
Are these same councillors and officials taking similar actions regarding the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta and similar events throughout the South Hams?
