If you go down to Churchstow tonight you’ll be sure of a big surprise.

Once again grandpa and former ambulance man Mike Langman has decked out his house and garden with a spectacular display of Christmas lights.

He has been staging the light show for many years and started collecting money around the year 2000. Mike has raised almost £60.000 so far for the charity Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW). Last year he raised over £5,500.

The original lights are still going and Mike has been adding to them each year.

People travel from miles around to see the display at his home near the Church House Inn.

Mike says: “People come from as far away as Plymouth, Plymstock, Ivybridge, Dartmouth and Torquay and they are only the people I’ve spoken to.”

Mike would like to thank the Salcombe Estuary Masonic Lodge for funding the electricity.

It’s an extra special year for Mike who will be celebrating his 80th birthday on Christmas Day.

The lights will be on until January 6.
