Two children have decided that enough was enough with potholes in their village, and have taken it upon themselves to fix it.

Ella, 13, and Josh, 10, from Hope Cove, decided that they had enough of seeing people in their village fall into a large pothole, which appeared last year. Despite repeated requests by the parish council, the potholes still have not filled in the hole, which is in the main village square.

The hole remained for yet another bank holiday weekend, and Ella and Josh had spotted bags of tarmac left over from their parents’ Ocean Reach development and decided to put it to good use by putting a plan in action to avoid other accidents.

Josh and Ella had experienced first-hand the dangers of the pothole with their bicycles. They asked their dad, Sean Hassall, to help them on their crusade against potholes by pouring four bags of tarmac into the 14-inch-deep hole.

Sean said: “I fully understand the budget issues with the Highways but there comes a point when safety is involved. Luckily, Hope Cove has always had an amazing community spirit and if somethings needs doing, there is always someone to help.”
