PRIMARY school pupils have put their debating skills to the test – to try to find a solution to climate change.
Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in a Model United Nations Conference at Ivybridge Community College to identify the key issues and discuss potential solutions.
The pupils explored the factors that led to climate change and the role that the Security Council and the international community plays in attempting to resolve it. The pupils took on the role of delegates of a particular nation and were called on to represent their nation's attitudes and policies.
The delegates were supported by a team of tertiary students from Ivybridge Community College, some of whom were already experienced at debating at MUN conferences.
Teacher Emma Gough said: 'As Secretary General, I was astounded by the quality of arguments and debate that the delegates brought to the conference.
'Ivybridge Community College definitely has some diplomats and politicians of the future.'
