Dr Lynne Gravell, of Inner Hope Cove, writes:
Regarding the Sun Bay Hotel redevelopment, in Karen Perrow's report January 20, Cllr Rosemary Rowe is quoted as saying 'all villages were having to accept change'.
What a pity Cllr Rowe did not attend the two public meetings at Galmpton Hall where 90 per cent of the attendees voted against the development.
Had she been there she would have heard many residents support the idea of change, indeed acknowledging that the Sun Bay was in need of redevelopment.
This was never the issue; the issue is that the planned development is completely out of character, out of place and oversized.
Cllr Rowe's comment almost seems to imply that all change is good, rather than demonstrating the wisdom of discernment about when it is appropriate and when it is not.
I imagine similar arguments were used by our political masters when they deregulated the banking industry. And we all know the results of that decision.
So, in the spirit of change, can I (we) ask council members (for a change) to take note of the overwhelming voice of the electorate and to really listen to what we are saying with particular respect and concern.
As Dave Clarke asks, Letters January 20, please represent the views of your voters, otherwise you risk exacerbating the growing disillusion of our society in its politicians and political process.
