A South Hams care home has been awarded the highest accolade by the Care Quality Commission for the standard of its care.
The award came hot on the heels of celebrations to mark 25 years in the job for Jean Jones, Matron and Registered Manager of Manor Nursing Care in Yealmpton. The home described the CQC rating as “ a fitting tribute to her many years of care and dedication”.
Manor Nursing Care at Yealmpton was rated “outstanding” by the CQC for its caring. Its sister home in Brixton, The Lawns, both owned by Wells House, was awarded a “good” rating.
The CQC said staff at The Manor were “exceptionally caring”, commenting: “People were treated with kindness and endearing compassion by staff who truly respected and valued the people they cared for.”
Many staff have been with the company for a long time, a significant number for over 20 years. A spokesman for Wells House said that this “speaks volumes for the high regard in which the homes are held”. They describe The Manor and The Lawns as “an asset for the future wellbeing of everyone in the local community”.
