A local home care company hosted an open crafting event as a way to help people living with issues such as dementia, stroke and isolation.

In conjunction with Creation Station, The Care Company SW Ltd held the event with the hopes of encouraging its residents to develop their social skills, health and well-being while channeling their inner creativity.

The event actively encouraged its clients, the local community, and their friends and family to witness how a creative opportunity of this sort can have a positive impact on relationships and physical and mental health.

The event was led by Victoria, who leads the South Hams branch of Creation Station, and assisted by the team of carers who provided additional individual support and guidance. The activities provided at various tables included making 3D canvases using buttons, sequins and felt, making birdhouses, and painting.

Senior Administrator for TCCSW, Annette Zaffiro, said that hearing the feedback about the event was amazing, including, “It was interesting to hear the stories of those around me and it was nice to see everyone enjoying themselves”.

“Having recently won ‘Best Live-in Care Company’ in Devon and ‘Best Home and Palliative Care Provider’ in the 2018 UK Southern Business Awards, we know how supporting a community of people in a varied and creative way has an important part to play within the care industry,” said Annette.

The event was made possible with the help of sponsors Beers Solicitors, Devon Hearing and Cllr Julian Brazil.

A raffle was also held to help continue these events in the future with generous donations from Gara Rock Hotel, Buckland Tout-Saints Hotel, Annie’s Fruit Shop, Peter Betteridge, Lloyd Maunder’s Butchers, The Cod Father, Avon Mill, Soar Mill Cove and Morrisons.

Refreshments were kindly provided by @ the Bakery, and The Care Company SW Ltd and its employees.
