A car was parked in an unusual situation this afternoon when a driver accidentally began descending the pedestrian steps to a town-centre supermarket.

Police were on scene at around 1.30pm in Kingsbridge Fore Street car park after an elderly gentleman got his car stuck on the steps down to Tesco supermarket.

No one was injured and the man, from the local area and who understandably was a little shaken, was supported by Tesco staff, who gave him a hot drink and got him a seat while his vehicle was towed. The police blocked access to the steps while the vehicle was recovered.
