A volunteer charity collector has thanked those who helped him when his foot was run over by a car.

Lawrence Townsend was distributing Christian Aid fundraising materials to properties and businesses in Kingsbridge when an accident led to his foot being run over by a car.

Lawrence said: “Kathy Grills lifted me on to a chair, ex-mayor Wayne Grills brought me an ice pack and the police and a first responder were soon there. The first responder gave me the option of either going to South Hams or Derriford Hospital, I chose South Hams.

“I had first class treatment at South Hams Hospital, and although an X-ray showed I had two broken bones, I was in plaster and back home shortly.”

Lawrence had been delivering donation envelopes to properties around Kingsbridge and now cannot make it to pick the envelopes back up again due to his injury, so he is asking people to either hold on until Thursday or Friday this week, or hand them into either the WordWise Christian bookshop on Fore Street or the Cornelius Fund charity shop on Mill Street.

Lawrence added his “sincere thanks to those who helped me”.
