AFTER releasing her first book, author Carmen Henderson is holding a book signing at Kingsbridge Library.
Carmen, from Frogmore, has written ‘Backjump’ a ‘timeslip’ book about two 21st Century youngsters who end up in the 14th Century.
Coping with the drastic change in their environment, and with their lives under threat, the story follows them on their adventures in the time of the Black Death, the Peasants Revolt and the Hundred Years’ War.
Carmen said she has painstakingly researched the historical accuracy of the book, so down to the descriptions and the smells, it will transport you back to another time.
‘I’ve aimed this book at young people aged between 11-14, but younger and older readers have loved it too’, said Carmen, a retired English teacher.
She retired from Plymouth College in 2010 and completed a Masters in Creative Writing, with the seed of Backjump being her dissertation and it has grown from there. ‘The peer-critique during the course was really helpful’, said Carmen, ‘and lots of my ex-pupils have bought it, which is really sweet.’
Using a small, local publisher, Morton and Smith, Carmen says she has now ‘released my first novel, I’m editing the second, writing the third and the fourth is in my head’.
You can meet Carmen and pick up a signed copy at Kingsbridge Library on Saturday, December 17, between 10-12pm. You can order a copy by emailing [email protected] or visiting the Facebook page @MortonandSmith.
