THE magic of the FA Cup returns to Home Park tomorrow with non-league Stourbridge FC providing the first-round challenge for Argyle.
The Midlands-based visitors play their football in the Evo-Stick Southern League Premier, which is three divisions below the Pilgrims, and the underdogs will come into the game with no fear and nothing to lose.
The Greens are high on confidence themselves, though, after a strong performance against high-flying Morecambe in the league at Home Park last Saturday.
Argyle looked set for all three points but were denied by a strike deep into injury time to hand Morecambe a point. Watching the Greens tomorrow will be lifelong fan Chris Webb, who this week was named honorary club president by new owner James Brent.
Webb had stepped down from his previous role as head of the Argyle supporters' trust last week and is delighted to be taking on the new role at the club.
He said: 'I am both humbled and honoured to accept the position of club president.
'I see this as a recognition for the whole Green Army and the role that the supporters played in saving Argyle. Now we look forward to the future and pulling everyone connected to Argyle together as we strive to return to our rightful place.
'I am ready and willing to play my part in building a new Argyle based on values of honesty, integrity and transparency'.
James Brent said: 'It is no exaggeration to say that, were it not for Chris and a number of other dedicated Greens, Argyle would be no more.
'I am delighted that the club is honouring Chris and the Green Army in this way.
'I would emphasise again, however, that our job has just begun; we, collectively, have a lot of work to do to return our club to its rightful position.'
On the field, the Pilgrims were impressive last Saturday against promotion-chasing Morecombe.
They held a 1-0 lead right up until the fourth minute of injury time, only to be punished by a fierce strike from Morecambe skipper Nick Fenton.
Argyle lined up with their player-manager Carl Fletcher in midfield and his assistant player-coach Romain Larrieu in between the sticks, leaving newly promoted coach Kevin Nancekivell in charge of the dug-out.
Warren Feeney returned up front in place of the suspended Jamie Griffiths, who effectively ended his playing days for Argyle as his sending off against Cheltenham Town means his loan spell at Home Park will expire before his suspension.
The only other change from the Cheltenham game was at right-back, where new loan signing Paul Bignot from Blackpool replaced Durrell Berry, who was also suspended.
The first half began as a cagey affair and the first real chance fell to Morecambe striker Kevin Ellison after 25 minutes, whose first-time drive from inside the box was blocked by Larrieu.
Argyle then exerted some pressure of their own and looked especially dangerous from set pieces thanks to good deliveries from Conor Hourihane and Luke Young.
Plymouth forward Jared Sims claimed two penalties in as many minutes when first his header looked to be handled on the line by Morecambe defender Gary Macdonald, and shortly after he was being climbed upon by another defender in the box.
However, from the second appeal the ball came back to the edge of the box where it was rifled in by captain Simon Walton's left foot. The strike, which cane on the half-hour, was so sweet that the 'keeper did not even have time to dive.
After the break, the Pilgrims continued to have the better of the play with excellent performances from full-backs Bignot and Onismor Bhasera. Striker Warren Feeney also worked tirelessly up front, causing Morecambe's defence all sorts of problems.
Former Ivybridge Community College student Matt Lecointe replaced Sims after an hour and, 10 minutes from time, Will Atkinson came on for Hourihane on the left side of midfield.
The tricky Ellison forced Larrieu into a couple of smart saves as the 90-minute mark drew closer, and every Argyle fan took a hefty sigh when they saw five minutes of stoppage time on the fourth officials board.
With four of those played, Morecambe managed to find the net with a vicious strike from Fenton into the roof of the net, after the ball fell kindly to him just inside the box.
Fletcher was happy with the performance shown by his players, but was clearly disappointed not to take all three points.
