A WOMAN whose husband died the day after their wedding has appealed for help finding her wedding ring.

Jane Sedgeley-Strachan lost her unique wedding ring while swimming at Thurlestone Sands on July 31. ‘Its silver with an otter and fish inlayed in gold’, explained Jane, ‘Our rings were made unique for us by a Devon jeweller because my husband was a mammalogist and loved otters. The jeweller rushed to make them in time for the wedding.’

Jane, who married Rob Strachan two years ago, said that the pair of rings were unique and although she still has Rob’s, she would love to get hers returned to her and has enlisted the help of local metal detectorists.

Rob passed away of cancer the day after their wedding so the ring is of even more sentimental value than other wedding rings.

Jane said she was swimming at the northern end of Thurlestone Sands when she lost the ring. She said she walked past the cave with the warning sign on it and was sat past the cave near the rocks at the top of the beach - if you get to the big grey rocks you’ve gone too far. She was swimming in the sea in front of this position, between two outcrops of rocks.

She said she has been attempting to get landowner permission for metal detectors to look for the ring and while she said that the National Trust, who own the southern end of the beach, had been really helpful, the northern end of the beach is owned by a number of different people so she is having more of a problem.
