A South Hams resident is going to cycle 78 miles in one day for the Stroke Association.
Lucy Cohen who sadly lost her father, David Cohen after he suffered a stroke last year, is training hard to complete three marathon static bike rides in one day.
David was a well-known, well liked figure of the Salcombe community who was involved with Salcombe Town Council, Salcombe Music Festival, Kingsbridge, Malborough and Hope Cove Conservatives, the Salcombe Swimming Pool committee, the Hands Off Whitestrand campaign and Salcombe Primary School as well as being an author and playwright.
Lucy is hoping to reach a positive outcome after such a tragic loss.
The Stroke Association is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to conquering stroke. There are over 1.2 million stroke survivors in the UK and 100,000 strokes recorded in the UK each year. This means that someone has a stroke every five minutes.
Even though you are now twice as likely to survive a stroke compared to 20 years ago, stroke is still the fourth biggest cause of death in the UK.
The charity pushes for greater awareness of stroke and its warning signs and campaign for better stroke care.
Lucy would like to welcome as much encouragement as possible to keep her motivated on the day. Please drop into the Quayside Leisure Centre in Kingsbridge from 9am onwards on Tuesday, March 27, to offer Lucy support.
If you are unable to attend, please go to www.stroke.org.uk and use the name ‘Lucy Cohen’ to donate to this worthwhile cause.
