The Tom Unwin Quartet featuring Katie Tokus on vocals will play swing tunes made famous by Frank Sinatra & Ella Fitzgerald. Tom said: “We’ll be doing all those great numbers from Duke Ellington, Noel Coward & Cole Porter like Night & Day, Change Partners & Mad About The Boy.
“We love the stories in those songs and Katie can really inhabit them and bring them alive.”
There’s a dance floor at the yacht club which is perfect, as Tom & Katie are used to performing for dancers. They regularly play at the quintessentially Art Deco hotel on Burgh Island.
“Swing dancers will have plenty of space to move and lots of these songs were written for dancing. It’s wonderful to perform to a full floor,” said Katie, “and, although there’s no official dress code, it is a great excuse to get dressed up.”
Dancers and listeners are equally welcome at the gig.
The event is one of a series of jazz gigs at Dartmouth Yacht Club, at 22 South Embankment. It begins at 8.30pm and is free entry. Call the venue on 01803 832305.
