Once again the Flavel is playing host to an outstanding musician. Jacqui Dankworth, daughter of Dame Cleo Laine and Sir John Dankworth, has followed in her parents’ footsteps to become firmly positioned as one of the UK’s foremost jazz vocalists.
Jacqui has garnered rave reviews for her appearances with the Liverpool Philharmonic, the BBC Big Band and as guest vocalist on Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night. She has performed and recorded with a diverse array of celebrated musicians, including the Brodsky Quartet, Courtney Pine, Marvin Hamlisch, Paloma Faith, Clare Teale, Georgie Fame, Charlie Wood, Gregory Porter, The London Symphony Orchestra, and legendary jazz pianist Chick Corea.
Jacqui is also an accomplished actor, having performed leading parts with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, and in London’s West End. Some of highlights include the part of Cinderella in Steven Sondheim’s London premier of Into the Woods, Sophisticated Ladies (a celebration of the music of Duke Ellington) and Les Liaisons Dangereuses with the RSC.
A representative of the Flavel said ‘ We are thrilled to welcome Jacqui to the Flavel at 7:30 on Saturday, March 17. It will be a very special and intimate evening of world-class music, celebrating the most iconic vocalists of the Twentieth Century from ’The Great American Songbook’ - including Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Peggy Lee. Jacqui will share with us the classic numbers that made them international stars, alongside stylish re-workings of lesser-known gems from these talented Jazz Sirens”
Tickets for this special Flavel concert are £22 and are available from the Flavel Box Office on 01803 839530 or online at: www.theflavel.org.uk.
