A local environmental campaign has provided an easy way for beachgoers to take matters into their own hands when they see rubbish on the beach.

Plastic Clever Salcombe has funded five new #2minutebeachclean A-boards to encourage more people to pick up a few items of beach litter when they visit local beaches.

The boards, which include litter pickers and a small stash of reusable bags, are now in place by South Sands Hotel, The Winking Prawn at North Sands, Batson boat park, Hope Cove harbour beach and by the Beach Cafe at South Milton Sands.

These five boards join a global network of #2minutebeachclean stations and users are encouraged to tag their beach litter on social media. The South Sands board was kindly funded by a grant from the marine conservation charity Seachangers.

Salcombe’s new harbour master Cameron Sims-Stirling said: “We’re really excited to have our own official beach clean station here and on some of the local beaches, as it fits so well with the ethos of Salcombe Harbour Authority. We already work hard to keep marine debris to an absolute minimum and now we hope more estuary users will join us in our mission.”
