Nurses working at South Hams Hospital, Kingsbridge, offered to attend a crash scene this afternoon when they learnt the ambulance service had told police officers there was "nobody to send"

The full statement from Kingsbridge Police about the incident said:

"We would like to send out our sincere thanks to the staff at South Hams Hospital, Kingsbridge.

"Following the RTC [Road Traffic Collision] afternoon at Sorley Cross, Police attended the hospital as the Ambulance Service informed us they had nobody to send. "We initially attended to collect vital medical equipment but the nurses offered to come with us and provide extra medical help at the scene.

"An ambulance arrived some 2 hours after the 999 call and the patient was taken to Derriford Hospital where she remains.

"Once again, this shows what a fantastic community we live in and how the emergency services work together"
