A woman has been seriously injured following a collision with a road barrier near a South Hams railway crossing.

The woman, in her 50s, was airlifted to hospital after sustaining a serious head injury following the crash at Bridge Road, Kingswear yesterday evening.

Police were called to the scene and have appealed for information about the collision.

A force spokesman said they were alerted to reports of a car in collision with a barrier.

He added: “Emergency services attended the scene and a woman in her 50s was taken to Derriford Hospital by air ambulance having sustained a serious head injury.

“Her injuries are believed to be potentially life changing, but not life threatening.”

The road was closed for more than three hours while emergency services attended the scene.

The road was cleared shortly before 10pm.

Dartmouth’s Higher Ferry temporarily suspended its service due to the incident.
