Crew from Dartmouth Coastguard and Rescue Team were called out last Friday (March, 18) after a dog fell off a cliff. Coastguards were called to the scene near Mattiscombe Sands at 5.41pm, alongside Prawle Point Coastguard Rescue Team.

At the scene members of the rescue team caught sight of the dog running along on the beach below. After some time searching the beach on foot, without further sightings, the decision was made to call off the search and return in the morning. It was later discovered the dog had managed to reach Lannacombe Beach.

A spokesperson for Dartmouth Coastguard and Rescue Team said: "Once on scene a small party went down to meet the first informant.

"Light was quickly fading, but a rope rescue system was set up and one of our cliff technicians descended to look for the dog. Unfortunately, after some time searching at the bottom on foot without any sight of the dog, it was decided with the safety of the technician in mind to come back up with the intention of returning during daylight hours. Thankfully overnight the dog managed to recover itself back to Lannacombe Beach."
