More than a dozen sheep have been seriously injured in a “horrific” attack that left four dead.
It happened in a field in South Brent in the early hours of Sunday, October 6.
Officers said four animals, including two lambs, had to be put down after they were discovered "with much of their insides ripped out".
Police said the attack was "deeply distressing for the farmer".
They believe that two dogs were responsible.
Officers posted a picture of one of the surviving animals on Facebook.
The photo of a ewe, which had "chunks of its body ripped out", was the only one “suitable to publicly show".
Totnes Police said: “Between the hours of 12am and 2am on Sunday, October 6, 15 sheep were savagely attacked in their field in South Brent.
“Such was the horrific nature of the injuries, four had to be immediately shot, having endured a night lying with much of their insides ripped out.
“This included two lambs. This was deeply distressing for the farmer.
“It is suspected two dogs were responsible for the attack.
“This is the only photograph suitable to publicly show.
“It shows a ewe having had chunks of its body ripped out, the blue colouring a result of some initial treatment.
