KINGSBRIDGE Police are investigating after a woman was followed through Duncombe Park by a man carrying rope. ***THIS STORY HAS BEEN UPDATED***

A woman was walking her dog through Duncombe Park shortly before 7am this morning when she said a man appeared from behind a tree and started following her, carrying what she thought could have been a length of rope. She ran up the steps and the man didn't follow.

The man is described as of large muscular build, 6ft tall, with stubble or a short beard. He was wearing a black hooded top and grey jogging bottoms.

A spokesperson for the police said: ‘Investigations are ongoing to try and identify this person. If anybody was in the area at the time, or if you can assist us in any way with the identity of the male involved then please get in touch.

At this stage we do not know the motive or reason for this incident, however we would advise people, particularly lone females to take precautions when out.

‘Always walk in well lit areas, let someone know where you’re going, carry a mobile phone and if possible a personal attack alarm.’

Police will be patrolling the town on foot in uniform and plain clothes for reassurance purposes.If anyone has any further information, please contact police on 101 quoting log 157 of 2nd February 2017.
