A honesty box has been stolen from a family-run vegetable stall, but the community steps up to help.

Dave Trigger and his family have a small farm near California Cross, and run California Flowers, alongside a small vegetable stall next to the filling station.

The metal box, used as an honesty box for the stall and secured with a padlock, was stolen between 6pm and 8pm on Wednesday, August 15.

Dave said: “They ripped the whole box off, but it would only have been between £18-30 inside. We put something out on Facebook and people have come forward with footage from dash-cams and phone cameras to be given to the police, so hopefully we will find out something.

“Its such a waste and it has upset a lot of people locally, but we’re not prepared to be upset. We are going to keep enjoying what we do and enjoying the lovely people here.

“If we did find out who it was, I’d be happier for them to come to us and do some kind of community service, maybe helping with hedges or collecting litter.”

Lesley Joanne commented on the Facebook page and showed how much the stall means to local people. He said: “I really hope they catch them. This stall has been a part of my life for many years. Plants, veg, lovely tuzzy muzzy flowers, eggs and the best strawberries ever.

“Very fond memories of my dear old dad getting ridiculously excited when I’d take him proper tomatoes and proper cucumber from the stall. My bed even came from there when your dad was getting rid of some furniture. Long may the stall continue.”
