POLICE have arrested four people in connection with a recent spate of marine crime across the South Hams.

In July, local police reported a spike in marine crime, with more than ten thefts occurring in Salcombe and the Kingsbridge Estuary in June alone.

Sgt David Green, Kingsbridge neighbourhood team leader said: ‘The four people are now on bail pending wider enquiries being made into a series of thefts of outboard engines and other marine equipment around south Devon over the last few months.

‘This is an opportunity to remind all boat owners to do everything possible to safeguard their property. Where possible take equipment with you, make use of one of the property marking products currently available on the market, and lock items that can’t be taken home.’
